On a more serious note, I'd love to know how they attached the "trailer" so that it doesn't just drop the second they touch the accelerator..

If they brought in the roof in addition to the bottom that'd probably be a lot more secure and probably easier on the body since I'm fairly sure these are unibody and the bottom of the connection is quite a bit above where they're designed to have a trailer receiver..

Because then it wouldn’t be able to turn properly given the way the trailer portion is rigidly attached to the frame

right - some beefy frame rails well into the structure of the van. It’s not sagging/bowing at all.
